Abolish Silicon Valley

The subtitle of this book is “how to liberate technology from capitalism”, but this is misleading. It’s primarily a memoir from an ex-silicon-valley-kool-aid-drinking startup founder who became disillusioned with the industry. That’s fine, and it might resonate with some in tech who are just starting to question the grand claims made by VCs etc., but I didn’t find it that interesting.

The part of the book that actually answers the subtitle is a pamphlet-sized list of policy suggestions near the end of the book. It’s pretty vague (“more democratic forms of government”, tech should serve human needs, and such), and an awful lot of the suggestions seem to end up with handing the government the reins.
